Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
Jesus’ final instructions to His Apostles were, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:1-2). Jesus promises to be with us, His Church, in the same way Jesus promised His disciples when they went out to make disciples baptizing and teaching, as He works through us to do the work of God’s Kingdom, baptizing and teaching in the name of the Triune God.
In medieval times skilled artisans and workman built cathedrals and great churches with fantastic turrets and spires pointing up to heaven, where Christ was said to reside. Yet what may surprise many, “[Christ Jesus] is present especially in his Church and congregation on earth … This presence is not part, or only half of Him … Christ’s entire person is present …” (FC SD VIII 78).
What an amazing and truly extraordinary thing when you stop to think of it, Christ Jesus present right here among us in AuGres, Michigan as we gather to baptize and teach in His name. Let us never shy away nor grow weary of inviting family, friends and visitors to our town to join us in the presence of our Lord and Savior, who promises to be with us, “to the end of the age” and all eternity.
In His Service,
Pastor Fred Cordts
